Twitter Update

OK, so I thought I would stretch my comfort zone a little today. I decided to follow a site about diabetes, since my son has Type 1 diabetes, and then the next thing you know, I have six new diabetes organizations following ME. I gotta admit, it felt a little creepy to find out I’m being followed by strangers. And, I’m pretty sure they’re not following me because they think I’m so totally awesome. I think they’re just waiting for me to hit the ol’ “follow” button to start stalking, uh, I mean following them. Ahhhhh, so this is how social marketing works? Now I get it. Not sure if I like it, but I get it.

DIY Project – Part II

My husband was busy sawing his first boards in the basement this weekend. In the process, he made the lights flicker and killed the microwave. OK, maybe he didn’t kill it, but he did blow the circuit.

After the boards were cut, he had to glue them together. I’m learning a lot about this woodworking thing. I always thought you just nail a few boards together and call it done, but apparently when you use “real” wood (vs. plywood), you have to glue smaller pieces together to make one big piece.

Anyway, he’s got two sections glued together so far. I believe he said there were eight. At this rate, something tells me the finished product might not come until the kids leave for college and I don’t need mudroom cubbies anymore.

“Damages” – Sleeper Show on FX Networks

Nobody I know watches the show Damages that airs at 10 p.m. EST Wednesdays on the FX Network. I don’t know why, except for maybe the fact that it doesn’t get the media attention that some of the more popular shows get. All I know is…it’s awesome!

First, let’s start with the writing. Since I’m a writer, this is something I can really appreciate. Todd A. Kessler, Glenn Kessler and Daniel Zelman, who also serve as executive producers, writers and showrunners, created it. The scripts are so rich and filled with twists and turns that if you’re not paying attention the entire 60 minutes, you miss valuable information about the plot.

“Bachelor” Bust

Can you even believe what happened last night on the Bachelor? After a long season of watching the “love fest” Jason (the bachelor) finally gets down on his knee and proposes to Melissa. It was a beautiful moment and the show ended with him and her and his three year old son jumping in a swimming pool fully clothed. What a finale.

I’ve Got Cat Scratch Fever

marble

Every night, or should I say morning, at about 3 a.m. I am awakened by a nagging scratching sensation on the back of my neck, followed by the dull roar of a tiny motor. When I turn to examine this annoyance, I am greeted with the sandpaper face lick and glowing eyes of my beloved cat, Marble.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love my cats dearly and love cuddling with them, but when they use me as the human scratching post…I draw the line. In and out go the claws to the back of my neck, scalp, chest, nothing is sacred. He’s yet to draw blood, except when my husband abruptly tries to shove the cat out of the bed and he is in mid-scratch. The claws hook on my skin like a fishhook retrieving its daily catch.

I Just Joined Twitter!

OK. So I took the plunge. I joined Twitter. I must say it was a very easy process, so that was cool. My new handle is escapethechaos, so if you want to check out my “tweets,” please follow me.

So far I only have one follower, my darling 17-year old nephew. He doesn’t quite fit my target audience of women ages 25 – 55, but I’m happy to have him along. Come join the party. It’s twitterful!

DIY Project – Part I

So, when I told my husband that I wanted to buy something to hold the kids coats and shoes, I was envisioning those cute mudroom lockers/baskets I ogle from time-to-time in the Pottery Barn catalog. He had another idea.

“OK. I’ll build it.”

“What?”

“Yeah, it’s not that big of a deal.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah, no problem.”

Isn’t Yoga Supposed to be Relaxing?

I was invited by a friend to try bikram yoga one weekend. For those of you who aren’t familiar, bikram yoga is a series of 26 poses and 2 breathing exercises performed in a room that is kept at 105 degrees. It’s also often referred to as “hot yoga.”

I had taken some yoga classes in the past and had always enjoyed them. I found it very relaxing, a good stretch, and always felt like it was a good way to start my day. So I was looking forward to taking the class. I must have been because I got up at 6 a.m. on a Saturday morning to go to it.

Anyway, when we got to the studio aptly named, Bikram Yoga in Nashua, NH, there was definitely an assortment of people there. The young , the old , the fit, the not so fit. There were a few other newbies there so I didn’t feel like I stuck out too bad. That was until we got started.

“Worst Week” – Best Comedy EVAH!

As a humor writer, I definitely make a point of seeking out things that make me laugh. And the Monday night comedy on CBS called Worst Week is just what the doctor ordered. Starring Kyle Bornheimer as Sam Briggs, the bumbling husband of his veterinarian wife, Melanie (Mel) played by Erinn Hayes, the slapstick comedy starts from the opening credits until it fades to black.

Sam just can’t seem to keep himself out of trouble and often ends up embarrassing himself in front of his wife and his in-laws Dick and Angela, played by Kurtwood Smith, best known as “Red” from That 70’s Show, and Nancy Lenehan.

“Twitter Me This, Batman!”

tweettweetO.K. So, I’m trying to be “cool” and learn about all of this social networking phenomena going on out there. At first, I thought it was just for the youngsters to use and couldn’t really figure out the point of it all.
