Feel like God let you down?  Do church people seem full of it?  What role does faith play in your life?  How can faith and finding a church family help you escape the chaos of life?  Look, we all need a break.  Below is a practical teaching on how you can reclaim peace in your life and maybe find a little hope again.

Who’s influencing our kids?:
Taught by Pastor Tom Ouweleen.  When surveyed, most parents say their biggest concern for their kids is who’s influencing them. Kids at school, TV shows, movies, video games can all have a negative influence on our children. That’s why it is so important that kids go to church regularly and hear positive messages and are influenced to be a godly next generation.  Refuge offers a great kids program every Sunday during the regular adult worship service where they learn to respect life, honor their parents, obey God, and be good contributors to society.

Commentary – To Believe Again
Have you ever been hurt, let down, disappointed, betrayed, or frustrated by a church?  I think many of us have.  For a lot of us, we’ve been so disillusioned by our church experiences that we no longer trust the church, it’s people, or it’s pastors.  So we quit.  We gave up on the church.  I understand because I’ve been there.  I once swore to myself I’d never trust another pastor again after knowing so many whom I considered fake or who lacked integrity.  Of course, many of those issues were MINE, not even theirs, but I’ve learned something important over the past 25 years in ministry.  The church is made up of imperfect, people…sinners all.  You, me, them.  We all suffer from human imperfection.  Yet it’s clear from the Bible that the church is extremely important to God and to His plan for mankind.  Consider that the vast majority the New Testament is specifically dealing with the organized church.  It teaches structure, leadership, and gives it it’s marching orders and purpose.  Some argue that we don’t need the organized church, we can all be lone rangers at home worshipping God.  I suppose in a way that thought has some merit, but we cannot forget passages like Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (ESV)

Clearly the organized church has value and is to be an important part of our growing in God together.  They key to doing that is to understand the church is made up people just like you.  Unless you believe you are of perfect moral character, you must concede that you are no different than those who have let you down.  You may different issues, but we are ALL sinners.  We must not give up on the church.  God designed it, Paul spent his life teaching about it, Timothy spent his life establishing local chapters of it, and even the end of the Bible teaches about the organized church in the book of Revelation.  The truth is the church is a powerful organism responsible for much of the good done in the world.  The church feeds people, provides medical care and education, digs wells, and most importantly spreads the hope of the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Yes, it’s made up of imperfect beings, but the marvelous truth is that God is capable of using these imperfect people to accomplish great and godly things.  So when we give up on the church, we give up on a crucial part of God’s plan for humanity.  Look, I know you’ve been hurt or let down.  We all have.  But don’t give up.  The church needs you.  Find a church…find a place where you can believe again.

Taught by Pastor Tom Ouweleen.  Pastor Tom has been there.  After 21 years of marriage, he went through a divorce he didn’t want.  But sometimes life happens and you have to cope.  This video contains some powerful lessons on what to do when coping with divorce.

Buried in debt?  Occasionally we offer the powerful Dave Ramsay course, Financial Peace University.  Here are some basic tips to get you started digging out from crushing debt.

Overcoming Pornography:
Many people treat pornography like it’s no big deal. “It’s not hurting anyone” they say in an attempt to justify this destructive behavior.  Yet Pornography is destroying marriages and families.  In this video Pastor Tom Ouweleen shares 10 simple principles to get you on the road to overcoming porn addiction.  And let’s not mince words, it IS an addiction.  Shockingly nearly as many women are viewing porn on a regular basis as men. Don’t let porn destroy your family.
